Ways to Give Yourself Some Space [Updated!]

I had a conversation recently with a colleague who rolled her eyes at the suggestion of taking a walk at lunch because “when would she have time for anything like that?” especially when she “barely has a minute to eat lunch as she drives between meetings.”

This person might be a little like you: Very busy. On the go. Caring for everyone else. Taking good care of everyone else.

And not taking care of yourself.

In the hustle-bustle of leading youth focused work, you are taking care of everyone else. Who takes care of you? It has to be you.

I’m not talking about basic hygiene. I’m not talking about getting to doctor’s appointments. I’m not even talking about eating right and exercising.

I mean giving yourself space to be still, be quiet and notice. Notice what there is to be noticed around you. Notice what there is to be noticed inside yourself.

You may not even know that you need the space. You may think you do not. But, give it a try and see what comes up, what happens if you let yourself be still for just a few minutes.

And once you have given yourself space to notice, you can begin to find the spots where you need to heal.  And once you know what those spots are, you can begin to place your attention on healing there.

We know you are amazing at caring for others. So, our team started to create a care package for you.  It’s just a list of simple, short, do-while-driving ways to begin to center yourself and your own wellness.

Try these activities for yourself. Add resources you like. Share this list with your team, your clients, your colleagues and friends.

You’ve got this. We’ve got you. ❤️
